Chapter 22
Liam
* * *
Iâm not sure why Iâm taking Imogen into Kenmare. Or anywhere, in fact. We should be up in bed while I fuck her every which way until weâre both sweaty and exhausted. Then do it again.
Except weâre not.
Thereâs still no word from Darragh. Everythingâs been quiet. No raid on the estate, my office, or the docks. Itâs obviously a tactic to keep me guessing or make me show my hand. As if that will happen. I have far too much patience for that. I can wait the Donnellys out. Dónal is still missing as well. If rumors are true and they do have him, I doubt his body will ever be found.
The floor creaks several times and then Imogen walks into the living area where Iâve been waiting. Sheâs pulled her hair up and sheâs wearing a different outfit than the one she had on earlier. Which means she got it from the wardrobe. I scan her from head to toe and meet her eyes again with a knowing glance, but I donât mention what sheâs wearing.
I stride toward her and stop less than an armâs length away. Her head tips back slightly and I want nothing more than to pull her to me for a taste, but itâs not part of my strategy. âThe driver should be here in a few minutes.â
âYou still havenât told me where weâre going.â
âI know.â With that, I walk around her and head to the boot room.
Imogen growls low in her throat, but follows me. Who knew it was this fun to antagonize someone just for the hell of it? I love that she gives as good as she gets. Yet again I hand her my coat. Already it smells of her.
âI donât need that. Iâll just go up and get a hoodie.â She starts to turn but I move to block her path.
âWear it.â
She huffs but puts it on. Unable to resist the temptation any longer, I cup Imogenâs jaw. She stops moving, maybe even breathing. I wait until her eyes meet mine before I slowly lower my lips to hers. It was just yesterday that we kissed, but it feels like a lifetime ago. I draw back and stare down. Her eyes flutter open. That same sensation hits me in the gut. I canât name it, but Iâm most certain I donât like it.
I release her and turn for the door to open it. âAfter you.â
Confusion, then annoyance, flickers across her face as she sweeps past me out to where the driver waits. She climbs into the backseat and I canât help but admire her ass. I get in as well. Moments later weâre out on the road.
âHave you ever driven around the Ring of Kerry?â I glance over at Imogen.
She shakes her head. âNot unless itâs near Cork.â
âIs that the only place youâve been besides Dublin, then?â
âAye. My mum and I would go every once in a while on a weekend getaway. Before she got sick, anyway,â she says softly with a tone of sorrow.
