Thrion d’Orsvit of Sharren Clan

I was sitting in the Holly Inn, located on the southwestern outskirts of Thirillon, and drinking dry white elven wine. Tresh! Where is that brat! I rubbed my face, trying to remember everything that had happened.

Tired and angry, I returned from the Dillonian border. The regular raids of fanatical female warriors were infuriating. We didn’t like killing women but taking the defeated women out of the country was tiresome unless we gagged them beforehand. They kept coming back to our territory like bees to a honeypot. I remembered the solution the senior officers suggested. I liked some of their ideas. One of the options was to shave their heads, as they did in the Light Forest. The other option was to ‘put them to good use’ so for the next nine to ten months the warriors would stay away from our border. I chuckled remembering that our younger officers suggested selling the seized armor to Dillonia because we had no use for it. It was just taking up space. Selling it would make everyone happy. The ladies would get their outfits back, and the officers would get a raise.

I gave a status update to my father and went to my chambers. At the door, I met Ollero Dro’Shanety, my brother-in-arms and probably the only dark elf I trusted. He was the Commander of the Palace Guards. He was not interested in my idea of drinking and having fun, he pushed me into his room, cast an anti-eavesdropping spell, turned to me and surprised me with some unpleasant news, “You obviously don’t know that Thorren ran away.”

“What do you mean he ran away?”

“He found out that your father arranged a marriage with Dereyla Orr’Ten, stole several teleports from the treasury, and ran away.” It was obvious that he was absolutely unsettled by that information.

“Have they found him?” My head was spinning. Thorren, my youngest brother, reckless and spoiled, was my only brother who had survived our ruthless behind-the-scenes intrigues—mostly because he hadn’t paid any attention to them. He was still too young. Why would our father suddenly involve him in our game? Thorren was absolutely not suited for the Court intrigues!

“No,” Ollero replied quietly. “The official news is that Thorren left with a diplomatic mission to the Light Forest. One-third of the Royal Guards have been sent to look for him. I chose my best men. You understand, of course, that three dozen Royal Guards is not enough to catch a cunning boy, taught by the best Sartar instructors, who is in possession of teleportation crystals and has a two-day start. We couldn’t send more people; your father wouldn’t allow it. He was not… pleased. He said that the boy spoiled his game and has to get out of this mess himself. You know your father hates fools.”

Ollero sighed and walked around the room. I could understand his frustration. He was one of those “best Sartar instructors” that had taught my brother. “As far as I know, we are not the only ones looking for Thorren.
