Don’t Rob Yourself of New Experiences

I’m lucky that I get to meet a lot of clever people who can imagine and understand something conceptually — without ever actually experiencing it.

I have one clever friend who says stuff like this all the time:

“Oh, yes! You pitch the media and get on TV — makes sense!”

“You started a coaching business by one-on-one coaching and then creating programs that could serve thousands of people at once! That’s good to know.”

“Success is simply a series of small wins over time? How logical!”

It’s wonderful when you feel seen and heard by people who can know — or try to understand — your experiences. But.

Knowing is not experiencing.

Don’t cheat yourself out of experiences. They are what create the rich tapestry of your life. Experience, good or bad, also makes you magnanimous without your even knowing it.

You can see the world via Pinterest images or via your own senses.

You can watch a hero’s journey in a ton of different movies or forge ahead on your own quest.

You can admire others for quitting a job to pursue their dreams or take the risk with your own resignation letter and twelve-month plan.

And once you learn, you’re able to share, teach, and show up for others in a bold, authentic way. Experiences connect us. Experience more. It’s never wasted. Live, don’t just observe, life!
