Cinderella

A feeling of shock washes over me as I watch Allison, Trevor, and Eric being led away by the guards. I have the feeling that I missed something very terrible happen. The entire ballroom is silent, though, and the room seems to part completely as the princess herself walks away from her chair and her mother. She makes her way down the center of the room and everyone moves to get out of her way.

Her eyes are locked on mine.

Somehow, I know that I don’t need to move to get out of the way. I can’t really explain how I know, but I just have this feeling that I don’t need to go anywhere. Something tells me that this moment right now was made for me and the princess.

She nears me quickly, approaching me, and I can’t pull away.

“You must be Cinderella,” she says once she’s standing in front of me. She looks me up and down, and I blush. Somehow, I manage to nod.

Then I remember my manners, and I try to curtsey. I stumble, tripping over my own dress, but she catches me and pulls me back up.

“That’s okay,” she says quietly. “You don’t need to be scared.”

“Your majesty,” I whisper. “Thank you.”

“You look beautiful tonight,” she says.

“Thank you. You look beautiful, too,” I say.

It feels like an understatement. The truth is that she doesn’t just look beautiful. She looks damn incredible. She’s the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen and I feel wildly lucky to even be here in her presence.

“Dance with me,” she whispers.

The only thing I can do is nod.

She reaches for me, tugging me toward her. She pulls me to the center of the room, and somehow, the music starts to play. Obviously, someone is watching us. Well, everyone’s watching us. It’s just that whoever is organizing this event is making sure that Princess Charming and I have a special song to dance to.

Soon the rest of the dance floor fills up, and we’re surrounded by couples, but nothing compares to what I’m experiencing.

“I can’t believe you made it,” she whispers.

“You don’t even know me,” I whisper back. I’m not being rude or disrespectful. It’s just that there’s no way she remembers me from all of those years ago. The princess and I shared a stolen kiss long ago, and even though I’ve never forgotten it, I bet that she has.

“I do,” she smiles. “I know exactly who you are.”

She does?

“How?”

“I remember you rescuing me,” she tells me. “I never thought I’d see you again.”

“How do you remember?”

She shakes her head, and then a soft smile spreads over her lips.

“I could never forget the first girl I kissed,” she tells me, and she presses her lips to mine.

I can’t believe it.

She remembers.

She actually remembers me!

All of this time, and I thought there was no damn way she’d remember who I am, but she does. She remembers me, and she’s kissing me like she means it. We’re kissing in the middle of the dance floor and all eyes are on us, and the princess doesn’t seem to care.
