Downing Street - Wednesday August 11th - 11:00hrs

‘We need to discuss the demands in more detail.’ Gerald Lewins returned to his seat carrying a cup of coffee. ‘Valerie, this is particularly important for you.’

He looked at Jake. ‘Jake you and your young lady have shown incredible fortitude and resilience in the face of some incredible odds. What’s more I think I probably agree with your theory about the Thule Society. Your theory about the treaty is also spot-on, unfortunately.’

Blakemore was incredulous. ‘Really Prime Minister!’

Lewins hushed him with a wave of his hand. ‘Jake didn’t you say that the Thule Society was accused of trying to infiltrate the government of the day and attempting a coup?’

Jake nodded and Lewins looked at each of them in turn. ‘Well if they still exist, and I have a strong suspicion that they do, then it looks as if they have successfully infiltrated our Government, Sir; first Trent-White, then Foss. Who else could they have they got to?’

Lewins didn’t notice the flash of concern that flitted across Summner’s face or the red blush that was seeping above the collar of his starched white shirt - but Jake did. Jake noticed and his pulse quickened.

Summner wanted to leave the room - now! He needed to contact Michelangelo and warn him that the hounds were closing in, but he knew that he had to sit through the torture of this meeting to the end - because he also needed to know the full extent of the danger.

As Jake watched Summner for any further tell-tale signs, Lewins continued. ‘I now need to confide in you about something that has been causing me some personal turmoil for weeks now, and which is connected to these dreadful events and to the treaty. I know I should have revealed all Nazi this to the full Cabinet from the beginning, but at first I didn’t really take the telephone calls seriously and now I am under direct orders from Michelangelo not to divulge it to Parliament.’

Blakemore cut in. ‘Telephone calls?’

Lewins looked downcast. ‘The call that my Private Secretary and DCI Foss took from Michelangelo, wasn’t the first. I had been in communication with him for some weeks.’ He paused to look at the puzzled faces, ‘I guess I’d better start from the beginning…’

At that moment, Valerie Kent’s PDA beeped and she read the SMS text that had just arrived. A second later and she was powering up her laptop.

‘I’m sorry to interrupt sir, but something of interest has just come up about Mr. Trent-White.’

She pulled up the sat-link aerial and navigated to the secure Mi5 portal. Within a second or two, she was reading a large chunk of text that was headed ‘TOP SECRET’ ‘It’s about Trent-White Sir, as I said.’

She turned the screen toward Lewins but he waved her away. ‘You read it.’

She turned the laptop back and angled the screen for a better view. ‘I tasked the Ops teams with researching Mr. Trent-White’s past,’ she explained. ‘His family’s tracks were pretty well hidden, but it seems that my staff have done an amazing job uncovering the details.
