Psychological Capital Tests
As we noted in Chapter 15, “Questions of Manageability and Team Spirit,” a new field of psychological research is being applied to employee selection. This research has determined that your success at work can depend on many factors: The technical skills of your profession and the transferable skills and professional values that underlie success in any profession are the most significant. Now behavioral research psychologists have discovered that how you perceive your colleagues and coworkers may be just as important.
This research tells us that these perceptions can reflect your ability to achieve, overcome setbacks, and get along with others in a productive manner. Referred to within the testing profession as Psychological Capital Tests, they can analyze your ability to develop competence, learn new skills quickly, pursue professional knowledge, grow professionally, work well with other team members, experience greater satisfaction from your involvement in groups, and experience and display less disruptive cynicism—all based on how you perceive and interact with others. Evaluating your psychological capital focuses on:
• Self-confidence—you believe you can achieve your goals
• Resilience—you believe you can overcome setbacks
• Optimism—you expect the future to bring good things
