Nick

Irritation fills me as I sit in my office. I know it’s stupid, but I thought Ivy was just kidding about wanting to be an elf. Who would pick that over a cushy office job?

“You’re not paying any attention to me.”

I glance at Griff. He’s right because he was boring me. His family is a bit insane, and I usually take pleasure in his stories. Still, right now, I’m thinking about my Ivy on the sales floor, dressed in those tight leggings.

“I’ve got other things on my mind.”

“More like you got a woman on your mind. What happened? She turn you down?”

“She spent the night if you must know, although nothing much happened.”

I fight the urge to lick my lips to see if I can still taste her there.

Oh, God, Nick.

Just remembering her breathy moans this morning has me harder than a nail. I’ve already used my bathroom once today like some dirty old pervert. The fact that I came in my pants like a fifteen-year-old doesn’t even bother me. In fact, that just shows how compatible we are.

“Not much happened? Where is she now?”

“She’s on the floor working as an elf.”

There’s a long beat of silence, and I know my asshole friend is trying not to laugh. “So, she turned down your job?”

“Just the office job. Said she would go crazy working in an office.”

He nods, and I spring up, unable to control my need to see her. I walk to the door.

“Where the hell are you going?”

“I need to check on things. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Are you kidding?” he asks as he pops out of his chair. “I wouldn’t miss this for anything.”

As he follows me out of my office, I grit my teeth. “Don’t you have a plane to catch?”

“Nope. Leaving on the thirtieth.”

I stop, and he’s so close that he runs into my back. I turn. “You aren’t spending time with your family? Aren’t they all going to The Island for the holidays?”

He nods. “Yeah, but if I have to spend New Year’s Eve with those nut jobs, I refuse to suffer through Christmas.”

“Well, come to my house. Mom and Dad are coming over. Mom’s cooking, also known as having it catered.”

“Thanks. I’ll think about it. I was kind of looking forward to being alone for a bit. The wedding is going to be the worst, and his best man even dropped out.”

“Oh?” I ask as I turn and start walking again. I listen with half an ear as I start my hunt for Ivy again.

“That’s what I was telling you.” The elevator doors open, and we both step onto the empty car. “My mother has decided I need to fill in as best man.”

“You’re kidding me.”

He shakes his head. “Now I have to be at a wedding I don’t want to be at and act as his best man. Worse, I have to fly the maid of honor out in the plane. Apparently, the bride’s sister couldn’t bring herself to get to The Island until the day before the wedding.
