Saul stares out the window, his drapes swaying in the wind, a wind that enters with the sound of a voice whispering in the room. It repeats the words that have plagued his mind for days.

Tens of thousands they cheer. The number continues to repeat, suffocating his focus from anything else, tens... of… thousands.

David left only moments ago and Saul was pleased to have just heard David’s expression of love for his daughter, but the whisper warns of his intentions, of his growing popularity and power. The words of the shepherd have fallen on deaf ears.

Saul knows that David must be hiding more than what he reveals. His words are nothing more than manipulation. David is cunning, and his eyes are set on the throne. It is a shame that the boy wasn’t what Saul had once thought. He loved him like a son. Had loved him.

The couriers have departed and soon Saul will see David’s devotion. If not devotion, then he will be proven to have been right all along.

David is your greatest threat, the dark silhouette says, before slipping out the window, letting the drapes once again fall.
