Shona left a note for her mother and drove to work with the air conditioning on full blast, wondering if she should stop off and buy some matchsticks to keep her eyes open.

She was on time, but every member of her team had miraculously arrived before her, something never previously known.

“Roy, in my office.”

She’d no sooner taken off her coat than he appeared clutching a large mug of coffee which he handed to her.

“You’re a wise man, Roy MacGregor.”

“I rather like my head, Ma’am.”

Shona smiled, despite her tiredness. The lad, who used to be the bane of her life, had grown on her. “So, Tatiana? Update.”

“We managed to get her on her own away from the Alexeyevs but she knew who we were.”

“Don’t tell me you got nothing.”

“I didn’t say that.”

“Spit it out; we’re taking root here.”

“The lovely Tatiana confirmed she was with our talent agent. I won’t repeat what she said, just be sure it involved a lot of detail.”

“TMI, Roy. TMI.” She ran her hands through her hair. “Anything else?”

“Nada. We’re clueless in every respect.”

“Hop to it and find me something I can use.”

He trotted off whistling a cheery tune. Shona put her head in her hands and groaned. Time for paracetamol. She was thinking of taking out shares in the company that produced it given that she was single handedly supporting their profits.
