Chapter Five

“I don’t like this plan,” Black said as Wendy tied the long purse strap around Black’s neck.

“Well, this is the only plan that I got and it will work,” Wendy said tightening the strap so that it wouldn’t come loose.

“That’s not the problem,” Black muttered. It wasn’t that Black thought that Wendy’s plan wouldn’t work because he thought the idea was brilliant. His main problem was that there was a possibility that they’d get separated from each other. “Let’s do this quickly.” Wendy nodded her head while keeping an eye on the children and the two men who were still arguing quite loudly.

“Here I go,” Wendy whispered and tip-toed her way into the small portion of the mine. Her heart was beating fast and sweat was started to run down her beautiful face. When the children saw her, their eyes widened and Wendy quickly placed one slender finger against her mouth. One by one, Wendy helped each of the children up and guided them to where Black was standing.

“Quickly untie them!” Black hissed and Wendy quickly unbound their hands.

“Hold on to this strap. My cat will help guide you out of the mine.” Wendy began carefully taking the tape off the children’s mouths and it was going well until she got to the last kid, who appeared to be the youngest. As soon as Wendy freed the little girl’s mouth, a scream came tumbling out of her.

“Oh no!” Wendy shouted and then movement could be heard.

“Those brats got up!” one of the men’s angry voices resonated in the hollow mine.

“Go!” Wendy yelled and without hesitating, Black took off and the children followed his motions as they held onto the purse strap.

“The kids are getting away!” The thinner man said as he rounded the corner and spotted Wendy. Wendy was scared, really scared, but she wasn’t going to let these two men see her fear.

“You’ve got some nerve messing with us, little girl.” The bigger man said fury apparent in his dark eyes.

“You’ve got some nerve kidnapping these children!” Wendy shouted. She felt the burn of tears threatening to burst at any moment. “They’ve done absolutely nothing to you!” the scarier the situation was, the more it fueled Wendy’s anger.

“A brat stole what was ours so we were nabbing any kid with sticky fingers.” The thinner man said menacingly and made his way to Wendy. With each step that he took, Wendy took one back.

“If that were the case you should’ve let all of them go instead of tying them up in this creepy mine!” The bigger man appeared to grow tired of the transaction.

“Tsk! Let’s just grab the girl. Those kids won’t remember our faces, but this one will.” Wendy didn’t wait for the other man’s response as she spun on her heels and took off.

“I can’t let them get me!” Wendy said to herself as she struggled to see directly in front of her. It was too dark in the mine, but if she used the light from her phone, the men would find her quickly.
