What is networking?

Networking is about how visible you are, or how many other people know that you exist and that you have (or have access to within the business that you work for) certain areas of expertise and depth of experience.

You already have a large network of contacts in existence – this is often forgotten, neglected or overlooked. What you have to do is to learn how to access that network as effectively as possible.

Carried out in the right way, networking is an invaluable business development tool. For instance, did you know that:

• A referral generates 80 per cent more results than a cold call.

• More than half of all jobs are found through networking.
