During the 1920s, the confiscated stills were taken to the Lincoln County jail to be destroyed. Stills were being built behind locked doors, and the revenuers could not keep up with the stills or the bootleggers. When Prohibition began, everyone was expected to dry up. This resulted in those who had never indulged before having the desire to do so. Demand for liquor grew with every passing day. Law enforcement agencies soon realized they could not effectively enforce the law. It was an unsavory job, and there was a constant turnover. There were a few revenuers who would let the bootleggers out of jail at night so they could take care of their moonshine, but they would always return to the jail before daylight.
