Chapter Ten
I turn west on Okeechobee Boulevard, and in less than a mile, I merge onto the I-95 South Miami ramp.
I see the wheels inside Simoneâs head turning, trying to figure out our destination. I have never met a person who hates surprises as much as she does. The need to know gives her a semblance of control.
âRyan, babe, where are we going?â She chomps down on her lip and turns, looking back at the Boca Raton exit sign.
I guess she was off on that one.
I zip my lips with a tight smile.
She huffs. âYou know I hate not knowing.â
âReally?â My eyes widen. âNah.â
She slaps my chest. We both burst out in laughter.
My eyes rake over her body. I love her dress, especially the slit. I quiver, and my foot pushes down on the accelerator. I need to get to this hotel.
With my left hand on the steering wheel, I trace her exposed thigh with the other. I smirk at the feel of her body quaking from my touch. A sense of satisfaction hits me I can elicit that emotion with a simple touch. Heat flushes her cheeks as she grips onto the door handle.
My silver Porsche, a gift for my sixteenth birthday, opens up on the highway, sailing past Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and North Miami. Simoneâs leg bounces beneath my palm, ridden with anxiety.
Her brows knit as she peeks at me from the corner of her eye. I rub my index finger in the middle of her brows, wishing she would relax. She scowls and slaps my hand away from her face.
My deep roar fills the car. âItâs driving you crazy, isnât it?â
âWhatâs driving me crazy?â she huffs, annoyed.
âNot knowing where we are going.â
âWhy the hell would it drive me crazy, Ryan? I love surprises. Itâs not driving me crazy,â Simone says sarcastically.
The farther I drive, the more her resolve crumbles. Look at her trying to be strong, but I can see sheâs on the verge of crumbling.
âYouâre not a good liar, Simone.â
âIâm not lying. I am past being crazy. I am going insane trying to figure it out. Each time I think I have resolved your little mystery, we pass the exit,â she snaps.
I bring her hands to my lips, kissing the inside of her palm. âWe are almost there. Relax, babe, and enjoy the ride.â I turn up the car radio.
She lets out a breath, and her body sinks into the leather seat.
Ten minutes later, I take exit 4 toward Miami Beach, then merge onto Alton Road. For four-and-a-half miles, thereâs nothing but dark waters on either side of us. I glance at Simone as I pull in front of the Lewis Miami Beach Hotel. My chest swells as her mouth curves up into a smile, and her eyes sparkle. My inner self pounds my chest like a caveman, pleased with her reaction.
It took us over an hour to get here, but I would drive long distances many times over to watch the glow illuminating from her face.
