He won the Art Ross Trophy for most points scored in the regular season and the Maurice Richard Trophy for most goals scored in a season. This was a historic moment. He was the first black player ever to win the trophies.

“To be the first black player to win a scoring title is an honour,” he said. “There will probably be other black players to win the scoring race, and when I have kids and grandkids, I’ll be able to share my stories with them, even if they get sick of hearing them.”

Jarome was the first black player to win many NHL trophies. Here, he hoists the World Cup of Hockey Trophy that the Canadian team would win in 2004.
