Conclusion

Whatever your reason for learning Italian, this book should have been useful and provided you with the basic tools to be able to explain yourself and understand an elementary conversation.

The first two sections explained basic grammar rules, comparing them with the English language, which should have given you both an aid to learning them easily shown you how important the grammar is. In fact, even if it could be considered something “technical” by many, something reserved for “experts”, it actually gives you tools to manage words and phrases so that you can communicate efficiently in any situation.

The third section gave you the chance to test yourself by putting into practice what you learned in sections 1 and 2 and to go back to those sections if there was something you didn’t get right.

As stated in the introduction, the main aim of a language is communication. And what is very important and essential is to understand and to be understood everywhere by everyone. Section 4 showed you how Italian grammar rules are used in real and common situations, “how they work” in practice. As suggested, you should have tried to replicate dialogues pretending to be one of the characters involved, and this is something you should carry on doing to improve your language level, and also by changing the sentences and words.

Language is still an ordered mix of words that translate what is in your mind, what you are thinking, and what you want to say. Thus, the function of the last section was to give you essential words and basic expressions so you can express yourself on any occasion.

Of course, the path is long. There are still many aspects, grammar rules, tenses, words, and expressions of the Italian language that you didn’t learn in this book, but these four sections have certainly given you the basic tools, which represent a good starting point!

Remember, learning a language is an endless journey. During it, you will encounter difficulties, but don’t be discouraged! In the end, you will be rewarded with the most exciting prize: the knowledge of a new language. And this means the opportunity to communicate and express yourself to and with other people, and to get into a new culture, having the possibility to understand it from an inner point of view.
