~ CHAPTER 7 ~
The Glass Altar
Graceâs second daughter was a little over four years old now, and Anneâs youngest son was soon-to-be three. While Grace and Anne were busy being mommies, Alax was planning for her wedding, which was fast-approaching, six months away!
Grace and Anne had planned to travel together to attend it. Grace was leaving her kids in Turks, and so was Anne. Grace was bringing along Julie again this time. They were all so excited for Alaxâs ceremony. They couldnât wait. Anne was excited for the food.
The girls booked their accommodations and were on their way to witness Alaxâs union. When they arrived at the airport, they went to collect their car and headed to the hotel. Thirty minutes after landing, they were still driving, trying to find the hotel that should have been fifteen minutes away from the airport. It was evident that they were lost.
When the girls finally got their bearings, they found themselves turning through a dark corner. The hotel was hidden behind a big tree. They couldnât believe that was the place that they had booked. It looked like they were about to see prostitutes and drug dealers inside.
They got out of the car and hesitantly dragged their feet into the building. âUgh, this place smells like moth balls,â Grace said with disgust.
Jolly Julie, Graceâs sister, said, âItâs not that bad.â This place was far from the 4-star rating it claimed it was. It was a mere 1 star to Grace and Anne.
Nevertheless, they unpacked their bags and started to look on the bright side; they were on a mini vacation, thanks to Alax. That evening was going to be Alaxâs surprise wedding shower. Grace, Julie, and Anne wanted to be a part of the surprise shout-out, but unfortunately, they came âfashionably late.â
They walked in right in the middle of Alax and Charlesâ thank-you speech. When they walked in, everyone turned to look at them, which made Anne feel a little uncomfortable. After Alax had introduced them as her best friends, everyone refocused their attention back to the bride-and-groom-to-be. Anne was relieved.
Just then Anne hurried to Roma, Alaxâs sister, to see where the food was. Anne knew that they were extremely late, so there might not have been much food left, and Anne felt like she was starving. Alaxâs family brought seafood all the way from Providenciales to cook. Anne had no idea how Alaxâs family managed to make those down-home dishes while staying at a hotel. They couldnât have cooked at Alax and Charlesâ place; otherwise, Alax would have caught on. Whatever they did, it was clever. The food was well-seasoned and tasted great. The following day was the wedding. It was to take place around noon.
After the shower, Grace and her sister Julie had Anne up all night driving around. They spent five hours shopping. Anne was beat. Her eyes were âdead heavy.â Eventually, Anne left Grace and Julie in the store and took a nap in the car. When Anne woke
