Competing Against Free Apps
One of the more challenging aspects that iPhone/iPad app developers are coming up against from a pricing perspective is competing against free. Many developers get discouraged thinking that their apps might not fare so well against competing free apps. However, if your app truly has functionality that goes beyond what a free app can do, then you should not worry...as much. In fact, some free apps (whether it is your own free app or another) can help drive sales of your app because users find that free will only take them so far and then they have to pay to gain additional functionality. If you think creating a free app is for you, then read Chapter 14 on how to develop a free version of your app. Consumers want a deal, and the word “free” is programmed into everyone’s brains at birth! Nevertheless, we also know that in many cases we get what we pay for.
