Posing and Keyframing with the DopeSheet and Action Editor

The starting point for armature animation is the DopeSheet, which you can access by selecting the diamond keyframes icon in the Window Type drop-down menu. The DopeSheet has three modes: the DopeSheet proper, the Action Editor, and the Shape Key Editor. You can select these with the drop-down menu in the DopeSheet window header.

Figure 7-1 shows two DopeSheet windows. The top one is set to DopeSheet mode, and the bottom one is set to Action Editor mode. They look similar, but how they function differs in important ways.
