There’s No Place Like Home: AI and IoT

As pointed out at the beginning of this chapter, more than 70 years ago, scientists and fantasy writers such as Ray Bradbury predicted smart homes. In a 2018 survey, Cisco found that connected home applications such as home automation, video surveillance, home security, connected white goods, and tracking applications will represent nearly half (46%) of the total machine-to-machine network connections by 2021 (Figure 6.4). That’s immense! With that type of momentum, what is the current reality of AI and IoT usage in consumer homes?
