Downstairs, Dex sat on the couch relaxed, with a smirk on his face. "Now do you understand?"

Gabriel grumbled something incoherent at his friend and took the seat across from him. "I find her more irritating than before."

Dex laughed. "That's not what I'm picking up from you, Gabe."

Gabriel closed his eyes, angry with his loss of control. "How do you stand it? Her scent, her taste, she is… divine. Infuriatingly divine."

Dex laughed harder, wanting to feel bad for his friend, but enjoying his break nonetheless. He understood what the normally stoic vampire was talking about. Ariana's blood was definitely not for the weak.

"She most certainly is unique. Did she do the little purr thing?" Dex's smiled widened at the memory of her little sounds when he'd sucked at her wrist.

Gabriel shot him a death glare and crossed one strong leg over the other. "This is not amusing, Declan."

"Are you kidding? To see you lose a tiny bit of your iron grip on control, for the first time in what, a hundred years? It's fucking hilarious."

"Lex would not agree."

Dex's smile faded. "Our friend understands her effect on others."

Gabe took a deep breath and Dex could pick up his guilt.

"He would be angry."

"Gabriel, you didn't do anything wrong. Ariana's blood is… special. You can't be faulted for enjoying it. You're a vampire, for fucks sake. You're supposed to enjoy blood."

Gabe raised his brow. "Not that much."

"How much?" Ari's small voice came from behind Gabriel and he could tell she was smiling without even turning around.

Gabe growled and headed for the door. "I'll be back later."

Ari and Dex both laughed and he patted the couch for her to join him.

"You're enjoying this a little too much."

"Me?" Ari laughed. "You were torturing him. And what little purr thing do I do?"

She shot him an innocent look, so he grabbed her wrist and played it over in his mind for her. It elicited the expected response. Her cheeks pinked and she looked away. Her penchant for blushing was one of the things Dex liked most about the girl.

"You feeling better?"

"Much. Why didn't you give me more blood? Gabriel said it wasn't enough."

"Ariana, I can only take so much."

"I don't understand. You didn't need mine too. But Gabe said—"

"No, sweetheart. Not of your blood, of you. You saw what you just did to poor Gabe. What do you think you do to me? One vampire hopelessly in love with you around here is enough. I don't need to jump on the crazy train."

She rolled her eyes. "Alexander is not hopelessly in love with me."

Dex raised his brow and pursed his lips. "You can't seriously deny that."

Ari thought for a second. "Gabe made me promise him something."

"What?"

She felt bad saying it, but thanks to his recent blood, he already knew what she was going to ask. The girl was definitely a broadcaster.

"He wants me to show you Alexander's emotions, in regard to you." Dex sighed. It wasn't something he felt comfortable doing, but Gabe must have thought she needed to see it.
