She sings, “Uwe la na tsiku. Su sa sai,”

Which means, “The liver, I devour,” in Cherokee.

To Lonely Lots

A rondeau entirely in Cherokee sounds

To lonely lots, you see a doe

Go slowly on a sunny quad,

To halt, to question you, to know—

You, next to equaling a god.

Among new leeks, on numbing snow,

To lonely lots.

“Ah, ha—you seek a soul. Hello,

Come, walk along. We glean,” you nod,

“What’s too hot-stalked. Talk—do you sow?

Doe, do you go to holy sod?”

Colloquially hum, “Yes? No?”

To lonely lots.
