Note that lines three and four end with an extra, unaccented syllable. This addition of an extra unaccented syllable to any traditional metrical foot (in this case it’s an anapest with an extra unstressed syllable ˘ ˘ / ˘) is called a hypermetric or hypercatalexic foot, though a metrical foot of this configuration (˘ ˘ / ˘) can also be called a third paeonic. You will be relieved to know that these three technical terms are rarely used and should be memorized only if you want to impress your friends! On the other hand, the terms iambic and anapest are important, commonly used terms in metrical composition and discussions.
