First of all, âneglectâ? Where do you see neglect when a mother is there for her babyâs every waking and sleeping moment, tending to all the childâs needs? Second of all, âsocializationâ? What little socialization infants engage in needs to be with their mommyânot some other infant. Children nurtured by a loving, attentive parent must have an advantage over kids âraisedâ by other kidsâremember the movie Lord of the Flies? There was a situation where peers dominated over adult supervision and earlier moral training; the children became vicious amoral animals.
The fact is, a mommy can take a child to parties, the park, or relativesâ and friendsâ homes and âsocializeâ all that is necessary and healthy for any child.
One SAHM was sitting in her six-month-old daughterâs pediatricianâs office, leafing through the books on the table. She had begun reading a section in one of the books, about the changes and challenges of the coming months of a childâs development, when she came upon the following: âMake sure other people who provide care and supervision for your baby understand the importance of forming a loving and comforting relationship with your child.â
This mom wrote me that she read it ten times because she just couldnât believe it!
