"No offense, Art," said Max on Tuesday afternoon, "but you're pretty much the last person I would've expected Dana to drag along to a jam session."

"Yeah, isn't this kind of a major turnaround?" Guy kidded Dana. "What happened to your antiroyalty crusade?"

"Watch out," Emily joked to the prince. "She may be trying to convert you through the power of rock 'n' roll."

"OK, OK," Dana said good-naturedly. "Go ahead, give me a hard time. Get it out of your systems. I know I deserve it!" Dana smiled at Arthur, who was taking the ribbing from her friends with good humor. "I told you they'd be harsh."

"Aw, we're not harsh." Max wrapped Dana up in a playful bear hug. "I think this is great! A small-world, global-village kind of thing."

Arthur grinned and took a seat on a stepladder in the corner of the Dellons' garage. It was the best practice session the band had had in a while; they sizzled with energy. Is it because of me? Dana wondered as her voice vibrated long and low on the last note of a song. Arthur didn't take his eyes off her—she felt his gaze electrify her. And when she was charged, the whole band was charged.

"That's it," Dana said after an hour. "Unless you have any special requests, Arthur."

"You didn't sing 'Rule My Heart,' " he observed.

"No. That's . . . that's Lynne's song. I don't know all the lyrics," Dana fibbed. She wasn't about to admit to her friends, much less to Arthur himself, that she had already learned the song by heart.

As usual, the royal limousine was waiting for Arthur on the street. Dana grinned as she and the prince sauntered down the Dellons' driveway. "I feel like I'm in middle-school again," she said. "Back when my parents had to drive me everywhere. Having Justino in the front seat reminds me of my very first date, with Randy Kimball. Randy's mom drove us to the movies. He and I sat together in the back seat. We may even have held hands for a few seconds!"

Arthur stopped and looked at Dana. "Justino is my guard and chauffeur, not my chaperone. He doesn't have to go everywhere with us."

"Oh?" Dana's eyes sparkled mischievously. "Why, what did you have in mind?"

Arthur spread his hands out. "I have no plans beyond my hope to spend as much time as possible with you," he said innocently. "What would you do now if I weren't here?"

"Probably just go out for a burger with the rest of the band."

"Ah, the Dairi Burger. I've gone there with Elizabeth and Todd. Let's go!"

"No, let's not go to the Dairi Burger." Dana wanted to avoid places where lots of Sweet Valley High students hung out. In her opinion, the less gossip about her and Prince Arthur, the better. "Arthur, we don't have to do only the sorts of things I'd do ordinarily. Your visit here is a special occasion—you should make the most of it. Maybe Justino should drive you down to L.
