“You need to let me go,” I growl at Serafina. She rolls her eyes at me in response.

“Actually, I don’t. We need to hold formation here. You think they can’t find the girls without you?” she scoffs, and I want to punch her straight in the throat. I usually try to refrain from hitting women, but fuck me, this one’s hard fucking work.

“Fine,” I growl and start to pace. I can’t hear what the others are saying anymore and that pisses me off, too. But she stands there like a sentry watching me to make sure the back of the cabin is still covered, even though it’s obviously not a fucking issue.

I feel like we’re waiting forever before Creek rounds the cabin and finds us.

“What the fuck is going on?” I ask, trying to keep my anger in check and totally failing.

“Fallon, Remy, and Nevin are gone. There’s no trace of them. We’ve tracked through the forest, and their scents just kind of disappear. Roman and Kain can’t feel Remy through their bonds.”

“What does that even mean?” I ask, tugging at my hair. This can’t be fucking happening.

“We don’t know, Caleb has gone back to the Shadow Realm to see if Morgan has any answers. But they were pretty off track when we did find their scents. We have no idea why.”

“Fallon wouldn’t just disappear, neither would Remy. Something must have happened,” I grunt, and Serafina huffs behind me.

“You think someone could have taken them both without a trace? Without them fighting back?” she asks, an eyebrow raised, and, again, I want to hit her in her smug face. This bitch is getting on my last nerve.

“We’re hoping they’ve portaled home, but that doesn’t explain a few things,” Creek says, and Serafina rolls her eyes and heads toward the front of the cabin.

“I knew something was wrong. It felt too easy,” I tell him, panic seizing my heart as the worst-case scenarios flick through my mind.

“If someone has them, we’ll find them. We won’t let anything happen to them.”

“You can’t promise that. They’ve both been through so much already.”

“I know, man,” he says, clenching his fists as he continues, “let’s head back to the others so we can start searching properly." We head around to the front of the cabin, where Serafina is talking quietly with two women. I’m assuming the Angel and the Witch, and we head toward Roman and the others.

“Any luck?” Serafina asks as we reach them.

“Nothing. We’re going to head back to the manor. Is everything okay here?” Roman barks.

“Yeah, they had nothing to do with any of this.” She sighs and runs a hand down her face. “I’ve no idea how we got it all so twisted.”

“We’re sorry for the intrusion,” Kain says to the two of them, and they smile at him with that starry look chicks get. Slick bastard. He could charm the pants off of a fucking nun. Even with the whole child of a Demon, blood sucker thing.

“Would…” the redhead starts, her voice so quiet.
