Sending Your Job Tools
Because most employers and job postings call for submitting a résumé, you must develop a document that can be saved and stored in your computer. You may want to scan the document into your computer, or create a résumé on your computer using programs such as Microsoft ® Word. Either way, you must first learn how to send a résumé, as well as a cover letter, to a potential employer.
Sending a hard copy, or paper résumé, through the mail can take several days. Sometimes, company addresses and whom to “attention” the document to are not readily available through the general online job posting. You may have to check several different sources to find the address, particularly if you are applying to a company or corporation with multiple office locations. While you are busy mailing off the necessary paperwork, scores of other job applicants are beating you to the punch.
But, it certainly would not hurt to go one step further than your competitors by sending your material through the Internet in addition to mailing a copy of your résumé, your cover letter, and a personal note. That way, your future employer will see, first-hand, that you do know your way around the Internet and are conscientious about making sure all your bases are covered.
