To counter the slope, keep your balance, and fight for traction, you must position your body in the middle of the bike, not too forward or rearward. It will also feel like you’re leaning the bike into the hill, but you’re countering that lean by shifting your hips to the downhill side of the bike so you can pressurize the downhill footpeg, which will drive the tires into the sidehill and bite, getting as much traction as possible. Be sure to practice traversing both to the left and right, and shift your body the other way when you do. When sidehilling on really loose terrain, plan your route to include a gradual loss of elevation, especially above places where there is no way out.
