The hallway was dark, wet, cold, and had a smell that was both old and familiar. Doors lined this cramp hallway leading to unknown rooms that held items we were both curious and excited to see. If these rooms could tell you their secrets of things past, one can only imagine what they would say.

The rain almost never stopped here. Day after day, the rain relentlessly pounded on the land. For this particular hallway, both the east and west entrance was exposed to the open air and the afternoon sky. The wind and rain funneled through this hallway making us even more cold than we were outside under the cloudy skies.

Soaking wet from the rain and shivering from the wind, we slowly walked into the hallway. As I lead my wife and four children down from room to room, we stopped at each door to look inside to see what each room held. Even though each room was the same size and shape, they all had different items from the past in them. Swords, armor, cannons, replica clothing and kids toys. What stood out to us the most was the last room.

This was not really a room, but a cave carved into the mountain of rock that the entire castle was built on. The last room in this hallway though was not like the others. This cave was where the enemies of king would be held, tortured, and eventually killed.

Chains and shackles were attached to the walls to hang the prisoners, instruments of torture lined the walls, and an uneasy feeling crept over all of us in the room. Seeing a place like this that was built thousands of years ago was just awe inspiring. Castle Edinburgh was just one of the many castles we toured as we made our way through Scotland on over to Ireland.

Growing up in a lower middle class family, our annual vacation was going camping in the summer. We never went anywhere we couldn’t drive, which wasn’t bad at all. I didn’t know any different and didn’t care. Even though we didn’t have much money, I had a great childhood.

Never before did I think I would be able to travel to Europe for vacation let alone take a 6-week trip through 11 countries. In March of 2018, I took my wife and four kids through England, Scotland, Ireland, Israel, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, and Netherlands. It was an amazing time that we will remember for the rest of our lives.

All throughout the 6 week trip, I did not have to work a single hour or even think about my real estate business.
