Take a deep breath, exhale, and bring your attention back to your body.
Become aware of how you physically feel in yourself
Bring your attention to how you feel against the floor or chair, how much pressure your body is pressing against the surface and any muscle aches
Gently wiggle your fingers and then do the same with your toes
Finally, take another deep breath and slowly open your eyes
Stretch your arms and straighten your body before getting up and continuing your day
The main aim of the above process is to gradually and gently bring your attention back to the room without a jarring experience of suddenly snapping to full alertness. It also has the added benefit of making meditation a pleasurable experience, making it much more likely you will repeat the practice in future.
