We use assembly lube on the tubes to slide them into the triple trees. On the Sportster setup, there are pinch bolts on the top and lower clamps, so we measure both tubes and mark them with the Sharpie to make them even, then tighten.

With everything in place, we will now check the movement to mark where our fork stop will be, and mark everything and anything that needs to be cut off later on. I always write on the actual part, sometimes even what color it will be, or maybe a nasty note I want to leave for others to enjoy.
