CHAPTER 14
Motivation
“Do not tell me the sky’s the limit when there are footprints on the moon.”
-PAUL BRANDT
IT IS ALL ABOUT MOTIVATION
It is all about being motivated and having a burning desire to succeed. Notice, I did not say, “having a desire” to succeed; I said, “having a burning desire” to succeed. A person with a burning desire can move mountains.
I could write an entire book just on the subject of motivation. What motivates you? Is it your desire to become a Number 1 salesperson? I would like to think so because as a salesperson—and I am sure you have noticed—being Number 1 is where all the money, accolades, and perks are found.
What motivated quarterback Peyton Manning? Did he want to keep playing football because he needed the money? No. What motivates quarterback Tom Brady? Does he keep playing football because he needs the money? No. What motivated Michael Jordan during his basketball career? Did he keep playing basketball because he needed the money? No.
Of course, these great athletes did not need the money. They were playing to win! That is their kick; that is their high. They were playing to have one more championship ring than their competitor. The people I am referring to here are great champions. They are warriors. Their burning desire is to be Number 1 on all levels.
Are you
a great
champion? Do
you want to be
Number 1 on all
levels?
