More questions than answers

Questions are, trivially, essential to communication. We are conditioned to answer questions and this often makes them very aggressive. They have to be used with care.

On the other side we have a number of ways to respond to a question, it does not have to be an attempt to answer it. A good generalised response is: that's an interesting question. You can quickly turn the interaction around by following it up with: what exactly do you mean by that? Put a big smile on your face and look earnest. You really want to understand what the other person needs...it would seem.

A large part of this book is about these kind of negotiations. As a last resort you can give the information that is being asked for, or rather your interpretation of what the questioner wants to know. There lies the danger.
