The facility we were heading toward was still twenty minutes outside the nearest portal. We were still confident that the humans didnât know about our portals, which was incredibly fortunate since they were almost always close to a family of supernaturals.
I was in the backseat with Tide Nereus and Zilan Igarashi. Liev Wyn was driving, and our resident demonâJuniper Daemonâwas in the passenger seat. I could see his demonic reflection in the passenger window. I swear the fucker smirked and winked at me.
Part of my abilities as a black griffin was in my sight. When using my monstrous eyesight, I could see a personâs true form. This worked best on monsters since humans had a single form. rDeadfully dull, if you asked me.
Most of the time, I saw it in reflections unless I let my monster out. Then that was all I saw. It was the easiest way to see how saturated a population was with monsters. Nothing could hide from my sight.
That wasnât to say I always knew what I was looking at. For instance, I had no idea what Ady was at the Daemonâs wedding. She was clearly Other, but Iâd never seen a banshee before. Honestly, I had thought that she was a witch or sorcerer in hiding. Something really powerful that could mask her monster.
Even when she revealed what she was to the group, I remembered being skeptical. Banshees were extinct. A monster that could kill with nothing but their voice? Of course, they were one of the first species to be hunted down and exterminated by Silence. If I remembered correctly, growing up we were taught that banshees were one of the breeds hunted before the Division of Silence actually announced their presence and agenda to the world.
I truly hoped I was around when we could announce to the world the ends of Silence and ORKA. I wanted to see both in my lifetime. But since both tasks were so fucking enormous though⦠I wasnât sure I would.
Statistically speaking, the odds were stacked against us concerning both organizations. In reality, a group of humans should be easy to hunt down. But someone paying attention to what was happening in the world was not only feeding them magic weapons but also teaching them how to identify monsters.
Identify, then capture or kill. I was confident that the experimentation was all their own doing.
Silence was a beast all their own. The things they were doing were seriously fucked up. There werenât even words enough to describe the horror. Every time we thought weâd seen the worst, we discovered something new that far outweighed the last horror we found.
Although, at this point, I wasnât sure anything could outweigh what they were doing with human women and the monstrous children theyâd bred. That might just take the award for as fucked up as one could get.
We were constantly trying to figure out who pulled the puppet strings in both organizations. We were leaning toward the same person. Or at least, the two kingpins were in close cahoots.
