Twenty minutes later, I found myself pulling into Real’s brick colonial driveway in the west suburbs. All of the lights were off, and I questioned my reason for even being there for a moment. For five minutes, I sat in the car, debating if I should drag him into my mess. I was sure he had other shit to worry about. Hell, he was a single dad and a businessman, but I felt like I needed someone to talk to. Someone close. Someone that understood Capone on a deeper level. And Real was the only person that I could think of.

Turning off the engine, I slowly climbed out of the car and headed to the front door. After several seconds of knocking on the wooden surface, I finally saw a light come on downstairs. Then, a few moments later, I heard the sound of heavy footsteps approaching the door.

Twiddling my thumbs nervously, I listened as Real unlocked the door for me. I wasn’t surprised to see him standing there with a strap in his hand. When he saw that it was me, he quickly placed the gun on an accent table.

“Kay? What’chu doin’ here, girl?”

Butterflies formed in my tummy as I took in the sight of his ripped and toned physique. He was shirtless and wearing nothing but a pair of plaid pajama pants. Of course, I knew better than to be ogling my husband's homie, but it was hard not to admire everything about his fine ass.

Funny. He was the best man at my wedding. My husband’s best friend and something like a brother-in-law to me. But regardless of all that, I still found myself imagining how life would’ve been with him.

“Karlotta?” he repeated. “Is everything good?”

I quickly shook the lustful thoughts from my head. “I'm sorry, Real. I know you were sleeping, and I hate to just pop up on you like this, but—”

“C’mon in,” he said, ushering me inside. I quickly stepped inside, and Real locked the door behind me. “Is everything good?” he asked, taking note of my tear-stained cheeks. By then, the redness had gone away.

I made my way over to the kitchen counter and took a seat. “It's Capone.” I sighed deeply.

Real joined me at the counter and took a seat beside me. “What happened now?”

I sniffled and wiped away a tear. “What hasn’t happened? That’s the real fucking question.”

Real was silent as he waited for me to continue.

“I'm really sorry for just popping up like this. I hope I didn’t wake Alyssa.”

"She's fast asleep, and don't worry ‘bout it. You family,” he said, rubbing my shoulder comfortingly. I assumed he noticed me tensing up because he quickly removed his hand.

Truthfully, I tensed up because he was turning me on. His touch was intoxicating. Had he not stopped, I might’ve begun moaning.

"Look, I don't know what’s been up wit’ dat nigga lately. All I know is relationships have their ups and downs. It’s up to you to decide if you wanna stick it out through the downs.
