Conclusion

The Indo-Iranian peoples of the Scythian and Sarmatian tribes shared more similarities throughout their existence than many people think. Not only did they share the same language, but they also shared the same nomadic or semi-nomadic way of life, a similar art style, the related culture of warfare and horseback riding, the high placement of women in their societal hierarchy, similar economic structures, and much more. Although they were different people, more things brought them together than placed them apart.

Even though they are no longer around as a unified cultural group, their legacy as ruthless warriors and nomadic herders lives on to this day, thanks to the writers of antiquity who, good or bad, wrote about their way of life. In a way, they never ceased to exist.

The Scythians and Sarmatians, due to not having a written record and being mostly lost through time as they were assimilated by conquering peoples, don’t have the popularity amongst the general public that they should have, especially Western audiences. Many academic works have been written in Russian, Romanian, and Polish, among others, but the English translation of these works is very sparse, which means that researching this topic is particularly tricky to non-Eastern Europeans. Perhaps the lack of interest among the international public, outside of a few cases, keeps the academic papers and books about these Indo-Iranian peoples from being published, even though the literary world would only be enriched by these translations.
