YOM KIPPUR WAR: ARAB – ISRAEL WAR 1973

The Yom Kippur War or October War or Ramadan War, or 1973 Arab-Israeli War, they are name given to same war. The war started on 6 October (the day of Yom Kippur) 1973 and continued till 24 October 1973. It was fought between Israel on one side and Syria and Egypt together on the other side. Launching of a surprise joint in the regions of Golan Heights as well as Sinai, by the armies of Syria and Egypt marked the beginning of the war. Both of these regions were captured by Israel, during the 1967 Arab Israel war.

For the first 24–48 hours of the war ,the situation was in favor of the Egyptian and Syrian armies , after which momentum began to shift in Israel‘s favor. By the second week, Syrians had been completely pushed out of Golan Heights. The Israeli soldiers had struck at the ―hinge‖ between two invading Egyptian armies, in the Sinai to the south. Before cease-fire was declared by United Nations, Israel army crossed the Suez Canal and cut off an entire Egyptian army. The Arab nations, felt humiliated for their defeat in the Six-Day War. The defeat of Arab Nations and the feeling of being humiliated in front of entire World was one of the major reasons that caused hindrance in following peace processes. The Camp David Accords, which came soon after in 1979, led to improvement of relations between Egypt and Israel, and it was the first time that any Arab country recognized the state of Israel.
