CHAPTER 8

Piper stood back and admired her appearance in the boutique mirror as she turned from side to side. She couldn't believe how beautiful and regal she looked. The stylist Nikolai had sent her had really outdone herself. Her curly hair was pulled up in an elegant, curly, French twist updo and her makeup had been done in a soft, sultry look that defined her blue eyes even more. On her body, she wore a white halter-style dress that snugly fit her chest and flared out on the bottom. Her freshly painted toes were covered with a pair of navy-blue Manolo Blahniks that fit her perfectly. Wouldn't Andy just die if she saw her right now? She liked to dress up occasionally but even this was a bit much for her. As she stared at herself, Piper wondered if her lover would like what he saw.

"You really do look breathtaking, Ms. Williamson. You have an exquisite figure." The petite stylist smiled behind her in the mirror.

"Thank you for everything, Rosaline," she replied shyly, uncomfortable with the verbal praise. "You really did a wonderful job. I don't think I've ever looked this good before."

"Oh, I don't know about that. Something tells me you probably have." The older woman winked before she turned to grab a small box out of her bag. "Before I forget, there is one more thing that Mr. Volkov insisted that you wear tonight."

Taking the box from Rosaline, Piper looked at it a moment and suddenly became nervously excited. By looking at the size and shape of the box, she imagined what was inside was jewelry. Piper had always been so poor that she could never afford such a luxury. Even when she was able to make her own money, she never spent it on things like jewelry. Taking a deep breath, she opened the box and covered her mouth as she gasped loudly. Before her, sat a pair of stunning 2-carat diamond stud earrings with an equal sized oval sapphire teardrop hanging from the center stone. Below the earrings, lay a delicate oval sapphire and diamond tennis bracelet that was simply gorgeous. Quickly closing the box, she attempted to give it back to the stylist.

"I can't wear these," she blurted, shaking her head. "These must have cost Nikolai a fortune. I can't, I'm sorry."

"Mr. Volkov thought you might say that, so he told me to tell you that they are on loan for the evening." Rosaline smiled, pulling an earring from the box. With the shiny bobbles in her hand, she walked up to Piper and gently slid them on her ears. She then pulled out the bracelet and latched it on her wrist. Standing back to admire the blue-eyed goddess a moment, Rosaline beamed. "Well, that small addition gives you a touch of regality and nobility. The earrings do a nice job of bringing out your amazing blue eyes. I do believe Mr. Volkov knew what he was doing when he picked them out for you."

Piper said nothing in response to the stylist who began packing up her things.
