The ear-piercing shriek of a flamingo or some shit directly outside my open window tore me violently from the deep unconsciousness that always immediately preceded a morning filled with the joys of both regretting my life choices and praying for death. I rubbed my eye with a clenched fist and the bird cawed again. Fucker had clearly never had a hangover. When I managed to pry enough of the sleep out of my eyes to open them, I glanced around the still-dark room and didn’t see my brother anywhere. Well, this is becoming a bit of a pattern.

I propped myself up on my forearm for a nanosecond before a monster headache popped out to say hello, then collapsed back into my pillow. While yesterday morning my DevvieSense was on high alert, I’d be lying if I said his absence now wasn’t a bit of a relief. I rubbed the spot between my eyebrows, where my hangovers generally liked to live, and sighed, because last night we kind of just came back to the room and crashed, and I suspected that in the light of day, things were about to get awkward.

Because I’d definitely made out with my brother.

I’d kissed a lot of women in my life. Like, a lot. And it wasn’t like I’d never kissed a dude before—a dare is a fucking dare—but last night felt… different. Honestly? It was fucking hot.

Pointing the bottle at me so Devon didn’t have to kiss Bryce? No-brainer.

Kissing my stepbrother to keep up our charade? Easy as pie.

Pulling myself away after tasting his lips? That proved more challenging than I had been anticipating.

It was supposed to be a sweet, romantic peck, but holding my little brother in my arms had given my body other ideas, like pouring myself into him and never letting him go.
