THE FIRST PERSON she sought out when she got back to the castle was Iain. As soon as he saw her, he took her in his arms and kissed her tenderly. Moira felt as though she was sinking into a soft bed after walking for miles. “I need to speak to you,” she said, but she realized by the look in his eyes that talking was the last thing on his mind.

“Bed first,” he said huskily, “talk later. I have obeyed your every whim. I have rested, eaten my fill of good things, and gone out for walks in the fresh air. I have emptied my mind of worries. Now, what will you do for me?”

Moira thought for a moment. She had been desperate to talk over the matter of the baby with Iain, but a few more moments would not hurt, and they had been apart for so long. She smiled and laid her head on his shoulder, then he swept her off her feet and carried her upstairs. When he opened the door and set her down on the floor she gasped in astonishment and delight. The room was full of flowers. There were thistles, bluebells, mountain aven, purple heather and in a vase next to the bed, a bouquet of white heather, the rarest variety.

“You must have searched everywhere for this!” Moira’s eyes were wide and her voice incredulous as she touched it.

He smiled. “Nothing is too good for my darling wife,” he whispered. He kissed her again, deeply and passionately, then they fell onto the bed. “Moira,” he breathed, “it’s been far too long, but I am no longer tired, and I can make love to you instead of making excuses. I have been waiting for this all day.”

She opened her mouth to answer him, but he silenced it with his own. She felt his fingers unlace her dress, then his hands on her breasts. Gradually, he slid the garment off her and flung it on the floor, still kissing her. Moira had to tear her lips away from his, laughing then she took off his kilt and peeled off his shirt all the while murmuring his name.

“I had forgotten how beautiful your body is,” he whispered.

“I have had children.” She laughed. “I have blemishes, my love.”

“You are as beautiful to me as the day I met you,” he replied, “my Moira, my love. No more talking now.”

Then he stroked her gently, touching her in all the places she loved to be touched. She watched his face as her fingers brushed against his manhood. His body gave a jerk, then he made a little groan of pleasure. She took over then, urging him on until they were joined together and driving each other ever upward to that peak of ecstasy that neither ever tired of.

“I have been missing you,” he said afterward as Moira lay in his arms, head on his shoulder. “We had not made love for over a month and this morning I wanted you so much.
