“Hey, beautiful.” A voice stirs me from my much-needed but short nap, but it is not the voice I expect to hear those words.

“Hey, kiddo. Why did you say that?”

“Can a son just give his mom a compliment?” I pinch his nose for his little smart sound bite and Carter laughs.

“Come on. We’ve landed. The car is waiting, and this little guy needs to be blindfolded with his mother’s permission.” I stare at him awkwardly because he’s asking me to blindfold my child, and I don’t know where we are. He throws me an innocent smirk with matching eyes and I give in.

“Come here, Xai. Let’s put on your blindfold so that Carter can take you to this huge surprise he has planned.

“Are you sure you don’t know mommy?”

“I certainly don’t, and he won’t even tell me. Probably thinks I’ll tell you.” I tie his silk blindfold over his little eyes and grab his hand and we start to descend the stairs.

“You know, I have a blindfold for you too,” Carter whispers in my ear when I pass by him. I look back and he gives me a wink. I shake my head and gaze at the limousine that is waiting for us at the end of the red carpet.

“Carter, what is all of this?”

“It’s a surprise for Xavier, my new best friend. Now, hurry.” I search for clues and I can’t see anything to tell me where we are. I think about using my phone but before I grab my purse, Carter cleverly reveals that he has my phone in a lockbox.

“How do I know you are not planning on kidnapping us and killing us or something?”

“Really, Tiff? Don’t be paranoid. Trust me, in about ten minutes, you will know and then two minutes after that, he will know and you both will be…happy.” I help my baby get into the car and buckle him in. I put his headphones on to his kid-friendly playlist and make sure the volume is up just a little. He begins singing along at his non-inside voice giving me the time I need to talk to Mr. C.

“Why?”

“Why what?

“Why are you doing this?”

“I feel like we had this conversation earlier when I laid out all my intentions. But if you feel that you need a more definitive answer, okay, I’ll give it to you.” He leans in to my ear placing his hand on my thigh, his fingers cautiously near my vagina. “I’m going to make you mine at any cost. In the bedroom I’ll make you beg me to stop, and outside I’ll treat you like you deserve to be treated.”

“Did you bother to ask me what I wanted? That’s right, you’re a guy used to getting what he wants.” I place my hand squarely on his junk before moving to his knee.
