Gay Sex Ed 101

The lab where they were working was only about a half mile from their hotel. But that was about the only easy part of the day. To call it one of their more challenging days would be to treat it too kindly.

Right from the start, they had installation issues because there wasn’t enough space and the local folks were being ridiculously rigid about moving other things to make room for the new equipment. Jeremiah watched Sterling try to tell them what they needed to do, but they fought him every step of the way.

When they were by themselves for a moment, Jeremiah asked, “How is it that they can’t see that forty inches will not fit in a space that measures thirty inches? It doesn’t get much more basic than that.”

“I’ve been here before. We have to go through this whole dance routine every time something big has to change. Drives me fucking nuts.”

When they finally got the space issue resolved, Jeremiah identified a computer issue that would need to be corrected before he could proceed. That caused yet another delay.

The plan had been for them to do all the installation and setup in one day so they could hit the road and get to their next stop. But that simple one-day install turned into two, and it left both of them frustrated and tired.

When Sterling suggested they go out to get some dinner together, Jeremiah gladly accepted. They skipped fast food and decided on a place within walking distance that the man at the hotel front desk recommended.

“You okay walking?” Jeremiah asked when they stepped outside to head to the restaurant.

“Hell, yes,” Sterling said. “This way we can both have a beer, or two. If I was home, I’d add something else to the mix to try to wipe the memory of this day from my mind.”

The restaurant was relatively small. They got a table right away and placed their drink orders first before they thought about food.

Raising his beer bottle, Sterling said, “Here’s to leaving this place in the rearview mirror tomorrow morning.”

“I’ll drink to that,” Jeremiah agreed, clinking their cold bottles of beer together in agreement. They both took a big swig of their drinks. “Ohhhhh, that’s good. If we weren’t driving again tomorrow, I’d suggest we do some tequila shots along with it.”

“Yeah, not doing that,” Sterling said. He snickered at some obvious memory. “One time early on, when I’d started working for this company, I made the mistake after a brutal day of on-site work—a lot like today in fact—of having a few too many drinks with dinner. It wasn’t really that much, but I was a relative lightweight when it came to alcohol, so it hit me like a ton of bricks.”

“I can see where this is going.” Jeremiah smiled.

“Yeah. The next morning I was so freaking hungover and dizzy and sick to my stomach that I couldn’t think about standing, let alone getting into my car and driving five hours. I never made that mistake again,” he said.
