Herbal Hair Rinses
Hair rinses are helpful in correcting the hair’s pH, removing residue left on the hair by shampoo and other hair products, and creating a healthy-looking shine. Rinses can also bring out the highlights in your hair.
DANDRUFF RINSE
Restoring the hair to its mildly acid pH can help to clear up dandruff. Consult a physician if you don’t start to see results in one to two weeks.
1 cup (250 ml) apple cider vinegar
1 cup (250 ml) water
2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh lemongrass
2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh nettle
2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh peppermint
To make:
1. In a saucepan, bring the apple cider vinegar and water to a boil.
2. Place the herbs in a widemouthed jar.
3. Pour the boiling water and vinegar over the herbs.
4. Cover and steep for one week, shaking daily.
5. Strain out the herbs and decant the liquid.
To use:
1. Dilute ¼ cup (75 ml) herbal vinegar mixture with 1 cup (250 ml) water.
2. After shampooing and rinsing hair well, rinse with the diluted vinegar solution.
3. Let the vinegar sit on the scalp for 1 minute.
4. Rinse thoroughly with cool water.
5. Pat hair dry.
YIELD: 7 TREATMENTS (1 WEEK)
SHINY HAIR RINSE
Using apple cider vinegar and lemon juice is the best treatment for maintaining the natural pH balance of you hair and making it shiny. Omit the lemon juice and double the vinegar if you don’t want even the slightest lightening of color.
Juice from ½ lemon
2 tablespoons (30 ml) apple cider vinegar
1 cup (250 ml) water
To make:
Combine all ingredients in a pitcher or a jar and mix well.
To use:
1. Shampoo and rinse hair as usual.
2. Pour the mixture on your hair and massage into the scalp and through the hair.
3. Rinse thoroughly with cool water.
