Chapter Eleven

Is it okay for me to imagine having sex with you and the others?

Even days afterward, Eli couldn’t stop thinking about the question. Once they had come home from the wedding, he had made sure to avoid Wren. Didn’t want to look at her and wonder if she had gone ahead and imagined it. Didn’t want to think about her with her hands between her legs as she cried out his name. Didn’t want to have to admit that even though the flame of hope for Emily was waning, he still felt guilty at how, when that question had shown up on his cellphone, all he wanted to do was drop everything and rush back to her so she wouldn’t have to imagine anything.

He didn’t want to want her.

His tiger did, though. It was pushing him all the harder to go to her, be with her. Hear her cry out his name in pure pleasure.

He growled as he folded his arms across his chest, waiting until it was his and Johnston’s turn to go into the fighting ring. His tiger wasn’t in a fighting mood. It was chuffing and rubbing against his ribs. Feeling relaxed and playful, even though it knew that the fighting was about to start. And Eli found himself wondering why. Why did he have to fight? Why couldn’t he just fake an injury early on and go home? Jake and Johnston were picking up some things for the trucks; they weren’t going to be home.

Eli could confront Wren and figure out exactly what it was she wanted.

“You look broody,” Johnston mentioned from where he paced.

Eli rolled his eyes. “I just to have one goddamn day where I can actually think without something new being thrown at me.”

“Ah.” Johnston’s furrowed brow cleared. “You’re thinking about Wren. And how willing she’d be to have all four of us. Just because she wants to fantasize about it doesn’t mean that she actually wants it. And given what happened, it’s only logical that she would be extra sensitive about boundaries right now.”

“She never should have asked,” Eli growled. “She should have just done it.”

Johnston stared at him a moment before he shook his head. “Do you need to pull out of the fight?”

“I should have pulled out with Emily,” Eli snarled back, even before he was aware of what he was saying.

“But then we wouldn’t have Daniel. Not to mention it really could have been any of us.” Johnston shrugged. He turned his face toward the exit, where loud, raucous cheers were echoing along with howls of pain from the current fight. “We shouldn’t regret Emily, Eli. No matter how it ended. And I know you don’t want to hear it but—”

“Don’t.”

Johnston turned back to him with a slight smirk that held no actual humor. “I was just trying to get you angry so you’d be in a fighting mood.”

Well, his tiger certainly didn’t feel relaxed anymore. Eli snorted as he tried to bring forward the anger he needed to be in peak fighting form.
