Wade stepped into the Full Moon Saloon. Despite his usual routine of partying as much as possible during rodeo season, heâd had too much preoccupying him. Even that night, he wasnât interested in getting wasted or finding women to cozy up to. There was only one thing on his mind.
âAre you sure you want to do this?â Jesse asked as they sat at a table near the back. âLevi is going to be pissed if you get yourself into another bar fight.â
âI donât give a shit,â Wade responded, but that was precisely why heâd brought Jesse along. The man had settled down a lot over the last few months, and he had a lot riding on the line, considering he had a mate at home and a child on the way. Heâd keep Wade in check and stop him from doing anything stupid. âI do, for Leviâs sake, but in the end, Iâll do whatever I need to.â
Jesse glanced around the room. âThen Iâll just hope that you find the son of a bitch soon, since I donât have a lot of time. I donât want to leave you here alone, considering the circumstances.â
âI can handle it. Donât worry about that.â But Jesse was absolutely right. If the lions had broken into his barn and cut Cashâs stirrup leather, then they could very well be after him next. The risk was doubled if they figured Wade might choose a new roping partner instead of giving up. Jesse was relatively safe, since he had no plans of entering the rodeo.
âFair enough. I guess that just leaves us to wonder if weâre actually going to find them here, or if we shouldâve checked the arena first. If this is a large pride, then theyâre all over town,â Jesse reasoned.
Wade was scanning the room. Shaw was behind the bar, as always. That wasnât unexpected at all, and with so many tourists in town, he probably didnât let any of his employees run the place alone. Some of the regulars were lined up on their stools, hanging out with a beer and waiting to see who happened to wander in.
âYes,â he finally said, realizing heâd been so busy looking around that he hadnât answered his friend. âThey probably are, but Iâm pretty sure they were here last weekend. Some of the faces I saw at the arena are the same ones Iâd seen here. Then thereâs always the fact that the Full Moon is one of the most popular bars in town, especially for shifters.â
âAll very reasonable,â Jesse noted.
âTry not to sound so impressed,â Wade replied.
They continued to watch the room, and Wade knew his brother would be teasing him if he had any clue he was doing this. Of course, Wade hadnât been about to tell Levi what he was up to. The sheriff wouldnât take kindly to Wade taking the matter into his own hands. If the mountain lions were in fact trying to take out their adversaries, then maybe it was a matter for the police.
