His hand snaked out and shackled her wrist. “That’s enough.” Gabe’s voice was a low growl.

Abby tried not to wince as his fingers bit into her tender flesh. “Isn’t that for me to decide?”

Gabe shoved her away, so hard that her legs bounced against the side of the mattress. “I’m not here for sex, Abby.”

Abby released the top button of her blouse. “No? But maybe that’s what I want. And aren’t you here to serve and protect like the men in blue?” She flicked open another button. She slid down onto the bed, her movements pliant and seductive. With a few more quick turns of her fingers, the blouse shimmied down her shoulders, falling to her wrists in a pool of luxurious silk.

Gabe watched her every move, like a desperate man longing for the first taste of cool, refreshing water. Even as far away as she was, Abby heard his heart thundering inside his chest. And if she touched him now, she was sure he’d explode into a million fragmented pieces.

Abby lay back against the fluffy mound of pillows, her own heart tripping rhythmically against her breastbone. Perspiration coated her skin and as Gabe began to walk toward her, her breathing became erratic. She wanted him, possibly more than she wanted to reach the full culmination of her power. She didn’t understand how that could be, but she didn’t question it. She accepted him as he joined her on the bed.

Gabe ran one hand from the curve of her neck to the gentle slope of her breast. Abby’s eyelids slid down over her eyes and she exhaled on a long, appreciative sigh. His lips whispered over her jaw line and Abby’s focus slipped another notch.

“I know you want me, Abigail.” Gabe’s head dipped even lower and his teeth nibbled at her ear lobe. “Which is exactly why I’m not going to give you what you want.”
