After our little visit to the warehouse, we went back to the Club for Church. There, we discussed what weâd learned about the Knights and our potential rat.
Once Church had let out, most of the guys stuck around the Club for a few drinks. I did the same, as Amelia and Angel had planned an overnight trip to the city for some wedding dress shopping, followed by dinner and drinks.
Reaper tossed me a beer and grabbed one for himself. âI know Iâm going to say this, and youâre going to ignore me, but Pipeâs on it. Amelia is safe and Kennet isnât going to get within fifty feet of her. You got my word on that, Brother.â
The part of my brain that controlled reason and rationality knew he was correct. However, my primitive brain, the one that wanted to protect my girl at all costs, was a different matter altogether. That part of me wanted to hunt, torture, and destroy anyone who dared get near Amelia. I had always been such a level-headed guy. But I couldnât help myself when it came to the platinum blonde. She simply unleashed my inner caveman.
âI know youâre right, Reaper,â I relented, taking a hearty swig from the cold bottle. âBut I just canât shake the feeling that weâre missing something.â
My Club President gave me a hard stare. âGive Pipe time. That guy could dig up an ancient Egyptian and expose his kinkiest secrets. Heâs a fucking genius.â
I snorted. âI donât doubt it.â
âPlus, weâve got four Brothers watching both our girls tonight. Iâd never put my Old Lady, or yours, in harmâs way. Theyâll be fine.â
I nodded. My eyes traveled around the room where German was playing pool with our Brother Bomb. Iâd noticed the two of them had gotten pretty close, lately. Though Iâd trust any of the Devils with my life, I wasnât a fan of Bomb. To me, he was exactly as his namesake stated. Explosive. Hot-headed. And volatile. He was always looking for a fight. In my opinion, the worst combination of a man there was.
Hammer entered the room and began chatting with Reaper about opening another automotive shop. Our first one had become so busy and profitable, I was certain weâd be selecting a second location within the year. Not just because we were drowning in business, but because it had become a great way to launder dirty money and hide stuff we didnât want the dick FEDs to find.
German caught my eye then. âYou want in on the next game?â
I had to talk with my Brother about a few things. No better time than the present. âYeah. Sounds good.â
Bomb tossed his pool cue down on the table. âI gotta go take a piss. Iâll play winner.â
When he was gone, German said, âRack âem up.â
As I worked, he chalked his pool cue. As the winner of the last match, German earned the right to the break shot. The balls bounced around the table, and several found the pocket. We played in silence for a few minutes, both concentrating hard on the game in front of us.
