At the other end of the kink scale, evoking a sense of self, rather than concentrating solely on the orgasmic experience, is clothes fetish. Though clothes and costumes play a part in bondage and sub-dom role play, the clothes themselves are not the focus.

A clothes fetish is something that can be done solo that does not necessarily require a partner, though groups meet to indulge their specialities. From fur and leather, to rubber and Lycra, from uniforms, to dirty high viz jackets, and from suits and sportswear to pants, there are no limits to the types of materials and styles of clothing people fetishize over. Leather gear, harnesses, boots, and skin-tight trousers are synonymous with the BDSM scene, closely followed by rubber and latex.

Fetish-wear is not a gay-only phenomenon. Plenty of heterosexual people have fetishes about certain types of clothing. The gay community, however, is inherently image conscious and so rather than it being something that goes on in the bedroom to liven things up a bit, in the homosexual world, clothes’ fetishes are tribal indicators and worn for the viewing pleasure of everyone, not just a partner.
