Chapter eleven

I checked the time and closed my laptop. It looked like the vast house was going to be a very large job. The quote was almost done. If the Rodriguez's accepted the quote, it would be four times more profit than what I've made to date so far. Mr. Rodriguez seemed less concerned about the money and more concerned about the time to get it installed. He was ecstatic when I told him I could probably get it all finished up by mid next week.

It was five already. Dee was late, but that wasn't new. I had learned to add thirty minutes to any time she gave me. I felt bad. She was running herself ragged lately. Jess couldn't remember her being busier. I started in the kitchen. Something simple tonight, green salad with chicken over it. I dug out everything I needed from Dee's well-stocked refrigerator. I reached for the chicken and saw there was some leftover steak. Ok, green salad with steak over it.

I had just finished assembling the salad in a large bowl and had started chopping up the steak when I heard the garage door go up. Minutes later, Dee came into the kitchen with a swoosh of air and her voice in staccato bursts. "That's what they're willing to offer. Tell your clients that's the best offer they're going to get from them." A short pause, "Fuck you too Dale." said Dee, dropping her phone to the counter in a clatter. She looked spent, tired, harried overall, not happy. "Oh Zach, you made dinner. This is wonderful. Thank you, sweetheart."

"It's not much, and it definitely wasn't hard. You look burnt. Why don't you go up and take a nice shower, or bath and I'll hold dinner, until you're ready." I said, hugging her hello. I held her face in both of my hands and kissed her tenderly on her lips, which wore the perfect shade of red.

Relief flooded her face, and her blue eyes looked at me. "That's a great idea, Zach. You don't mind waiting?"

"No, not at all. You look like you've had a hard day."

"I want to have a harder night…," she said, shooting a dazzling smile at me and chuckling at her own joke.

"Take care of yourself first." I laughed. "Anything you want me to do for you? I could rub your back or something when you get out of the shower? Rub something else, whatever you want."

"That would be really nice. Meet me in the bedroom?" she asked.

"Anything you want me to bring, or anyone?"

"Just you. I'm going to be a little selfish tonight."

"Got it. See you up there." I said, kissing her deeply and feeling up her hips and round ass while I was at it. She turned, leaving her stuff where she'd dumped it when she came in. Her phone started buzzing as she reached the stairs. "Hey, Dee, your phone is buzzing. Do you want it?" I asked from the kitchen.

"Fuck that thing…" she sang.

I chuckled and put away dinner for later.
