Chapter Nineteen
The air cooled the farther we descended into the canyon, and more and more I felt an energy building in the air. People say they come here, then leave not knowing what theyâre feelingâlike an unexplained sensation that buzzes in their veinsâbut I knew. This was a place so sacred and raw, touched by the divine that hadnât faded with time or disappeared to the expansion of man. Sedona, like Uluru, was still wild and natural in many ways, unencumbered by concrete streets or miles of frozen snow ⦠it was unchanged and accessible to those who knew where to look. The Hopi and Yavapai tribes knew, too, and they built their dwellings on the outskirts of the canyons, because the energy at the center was too concentrated to live nearby.
With each step closer to the vortexâs core, the hairs on my arms stood on end. A palpable wave flowed over me as we came to a set of rock stairs that led away from the path, seemingly to nowhere. I followed Gaia down their incline to the base of another sentinel rock.
Placing her hand on the stone, Gaia smiled as it phased before my eyes, creating a doorway into the heart of the spire itself. âThere is still a ways to go, so why donât you join me inside?â
I smiled and took her hand, letting her lead me over the threshold.
Entering the realm of the Spiritual vortex was nothing short of awe-inspiring. The rocks around the sacred place were the same that could be seen from the outside world, but instead of desert vegetation lining the paths between the red rocks, lush ferns and foliage flowed from the hills, creating a secret garden in this hidden domain.
âItâs just a little farther.â Gaia ran ahead, her arms held out to her sides as she brushed her fingertips through the green grass passing by.
âGaia, thank you for this. For bringing me inside. Itâs all so beautiful. I actually canât believe Iâm here.â
âYou wonât be able to go inside of the vortex itself, but as always, you are my guardian and of course I want you here.â Gaia tossed a smile over her shoulder before ducking beneath the low-hanging branches of a lush canopy of mesquite trees, spanning the path up ahead.
I followed beneath the leaves and came to a quick stop, sucking in a shocked breath.
In the center of this magical place, stood a massive doorway carved into the face of one of the sentinel rocks.
âThese are the same guardian rocks that the public view from outside of the church. However, we are now inside and behind the sacred stones that encircle this vortexâsomewhere the humans can never reach.â
I thought about the other sites, and how they were hidden but still accessible by man. âWhy is this one so special? What makes it so different?â
Gaia tilted back her head and spread her arms out wide. âThe power here is far more concentrated, and with it comes a connection that man cannot possibly comprehend.
