Laura opened one eye. Her body was stiff, the skin of her back and ass tender, the sting of the lingering welts burning through her nerve endings as she became fully conscious.

Mercifully she wasn't still tethered and chained, but lying down. When she saw Laura wasn't going to ask what had been stupid of her, she answered herself. "It was stupid to refuse to admit you are Number Seven. Not that you're the first one.

Laura couldn't resist following up on that. "You let them out?"

Laura thought about this. Perhaps the next place, wherever it might be, she would be able to find someone to help her escape. Ruby was obviously a lost cause. And she would get away from "Sir" with his hawk-like face and cruel little eyes, and "Madam" with her terrifying habit of pretending to be so kind one moment, and such a cruel bitch the next.
